What I do...

I'm a children's scriptwriter, specialising in TV animation. And now, with UpsideDown, my first venture into live-action drama for kids, I'm a finalist in the 2017 Bafta/ Rocliffe New Writing Awards for Children too!

I have written over 180 episodes of animation series for young audiences such as the award-winning Little Princess (left), Bob The Builder, Chuggington and Ask Lara. Producers have described my scripts as "fun, funny, and intellectually stimulating" (Baljeet Rai, Planet Nemo) and my scripts have won Best Animated Series at the Stuttgart Animation Festival and have been nominated for a Children's BAFTA, a British Animation Award, and an International Kids' Emmy Award.

I work as a development consultant, taking other people's concepts, refining them, creating show bibles and writing the crucial first few scripts of a series to set the style. I'm a good collaborator - easy to work with, constantly creative, and ready to challenge constructively when necessary.

As a script editor and head writer, I coordinate teams of writers and help guide, motivate and get the best from them - as only a fellow writer who knows the difference between good notes and bad can!

I'm passionate about equality, and I believe that kids' content really can change the world. I bring an awareness of diversity to my work, and I have developed a tool called 'dress-testing' to help identify unconscious bias in kids' shows, and address it with creativity and humour.

I served on the animation juries at the Shanghai TV Festival 2014 and the 2016 Rockie Awards, and in 2014 I was invited to the Asia TV Forum & Market in Singapore to give a masterclass on creating characters.

Having worked as a script editor in drama, and a journalist, I have a good overview of the kids' industry. I have been a session producer and/ or speaker at the Children's Media Conference in the UK and the Edinburgh International TV Festival. I have been a member of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain since 2006, and served on the working group tasked with revising its Animation Guidelines in 2014.

Although I live and work in London, I collaborate with producers all over the world. I am currently working with GRID Animation (Belgium), Fabrique d'Images (Luxembourg), Tthunder Animation (China) and others.

So if you're looking for scripts, script consultancy, or new shows, do get in touch.
